The Honda CBR900RR Fireblade was a revolutionary motorcycle designed by Tadao Baba in 1992. It featured a four-stroke, transverse four-cylinder, 893cc engine with a 11.0:1 compression ratio and liquid cooling. The bike also had a wet sump lubrication system, a 4 into 2 into 1 exhaust, and used 4 x 38mm Keihin CV carbs for induction. It had a six-speed transmission and a chain final drive with 108 links. The all-aluminum twin-spar frame with a heavily braced aluminum swingarm, while the front suspension had 45mm Showa cartridge with adjustments for spring preload and rebound damping adjustable. The rear suspension had Pro-Link with one Showa damper, wheel travel, adjustments for spring, preload, rebound damping, and compression damping. The bike had a top speed of 264 km/h or 164 mph and an average consumption of 6.4 l/100 km or 36.5 mpg. It came in four different color schemes and was praised for its agile handling and overcapacity motor. The Fire Blade name came about after a mistranslation of its intended name of Lightning.

Overview 1992 1993 Designed by Tadao Baba, the first Fireblade broke new ground in terms of power and weight, decimating the 750cc sportsbike opposition with its agile handling and over-capacity motor. c In 1989, Honda tested both a 749cc and 893cc Blade prototype. c Baba insisted on using conventional and not inverted forks as they were lighter, so he designed a set ofconventional forks that looked like upside-down ones. c Honda claimed the controversial 16in front wheel (130/70 ZR16) was a weight-saving feature. c The drilled fairing and cowl were claimed to aid aerodynamics and further reduce weight. c The Fire Blade name came about after a mistranslation of its intended name of Lightning. :
