Bimota SB2 80

The Bimota SB2/80, produced in 1979, served as the transitional bike between the SB2 and SB3 models. Only 30 of these bikes were produced due to Suzuki cancelling their order for the SB2 frames.

It was marketed after Suzuki cancelled the order for the SB2 frames. There were 60 frames left over, 30 SB2/80’s were built and the other 30 frames were destroyed.

The SB2/80 had the same frame structure as the SB2, but with the fairing of the SB3. Its 743cc four-stroke transverse four-cylinder engine boasted a compression ratio of 10.5:1 and was cooled by air and oil. The bike’s 4x 29mm Mikuni carbs were electrically started, producing 55.9 kW/75 hp at 8700 RPM and 56.9 Nm/5.8kg-m/42 lb-ft at 8250 RPM.

The SB2/80 features a chrome molybdenum steel frame, which is exceptionally lightweight at 8.5 kg. Running on a 5-speed transmission, it uses a chain for its final drive.

The motorcycle boasts a 35 mm Ceriani telescopic fork as its front suspension, with a single Corte & Cosso shock variable preload adjustment as the rear suspension.

Its front brakes feature 2x 280mm disc brakes, with a single 260mm disc brake on the rear. The bike has a dry weight of 196 kg/432.1 lbs and can hold up to 13 litres/US 3.4 gal of fuel.
