The Yamaha TT-R 250 motorcycle was produced from 1995-96 and had a four-stroke, single-cylinder engine with a capacity of 249cc. It was air-cooled and had a compression ratio of 10.3:1, with a TEIKEI Y30P carb for induction and digital CDI ignition. The bike had an electric starting system and could reach a max power of 28hp at 8500rpm and a max torque of 28kgf-m at 7000rpm. The TT-R 250 had a six-speed transmission with final chain drive and suspension consisting of telescopic forks in the front and a monocross with single shock in the rear, both with 280mm of wheel travel. Braking was provided by single discs – 245mm in the front and 220mm in the rear – and the tires were 3.00-21 in the front and 4.60-18 in the rear. The bike had a height of 1260mm, a length of 2096mm and a width of 836mm, with a wheelbase of 1405mm, a seat height of 914mm and a ground clearance of 305mm. The dry weight of the bike was 113kg and it had a fuel capacity of 10.2 litres.
