The Yamaha IT 250 was produced from 1982-83 and had a two-stroke, single cylinder, read valve engine with a capacity of 246cc. It had a compression ratio of 9.8;1, an upswept expansion chamber with a USFS-approved spark arrestor and silencer for its exhaust system, and used a 30mm Mikunis carburetor for induction. The CDI ignition and kick start allowed for a max power of 32.2 hp at 7500 rpm with a max torque of 22.6/3.12 kg-m at the same speed. The motorcycle had a six-speed transmission with a final drive of chain and had a frame of single-downtube, full-cradle chrome-moly frame with aluminum box-section swing arm. The front suspension was air-assisted, oil-damped fork with a wheel travel of 380 mm and the rear suspension had an aluminum-bodied monoshock with adjustable damping and preload for a wheel travel of 270 mm. It was fitted with drum brakes and had a front tyre of 90/90-21 and a rear tyre of 12/90-18, with a wheelbase of 1450 mm and a wet weight of 106.5 kg. Its fuel capacity was 13 litres.
