The Kawasaki Z 400 was a motorcycle produced in 1976 and 1977. It had a four-stroke, parallel twin cylinder, SOHC engine with a capacity of 398 cc/24.2 cubic inches, a compression ratio of 9.4:1, and was air-cooled. The engine used forced lubrication and had two Keihin CV32 6caburetors for induction. The bike had a maximum power of 36 hp/26.8 kW at 8500 rpm and maximum torque of 3.3 kgf-m/23.8 lb-ft at 7500 rpm, with both electric and kick starting options. Its five-speed transmission and chain final drive were supported by a tubular, double-cradle frame. Suspension included a telescopic fork at the front and a swing-arm at the rear, with single 226 mm disc front brakes and 180 mm drum rear brakes. It weighed 175 kg / 386 lbs and had a fuel capacity of 14 liters/3.6 US gallons, achieving an average consumption of 56 mpg. The length was 2080 mm/81.9 in, width 775 mm/30.5 in, and height 1050 mm/41.3 in, with a wheelbase of 1370 mm/53.9 in and ground clearance of 125 mm/4.9 in. It could reach a top speed of 94 mph and achieve a quarter-mile standing time of 15.4 sec. The Kawasaki Z 400 was reviewed favorably by Bike Magazine.
