The Bimota SB3 was produced from 1979 to 1982 with only 402 units made. It had a transverse four-cylinder engine with a capacity of 987cc and a compression ratio of 9.2:1. The bike had 4x 28mm Mikuni VM 28 SS carbs and a battery-operated dual point ignition. It had an electric starting system and could generate a maximum power of 64.9 kW / 87 hp at 8200 rpm and 84.3 Nm / 8.6 kg-m / 62.2 lb-ft of torque at 6500 rpm. Its clutch had 15 plates and was wet, while the bike had a five-speed transmission and a chain final drive. The Bimota SB3 had a chrome-molybdenum steel frame and front suspension consisting of 38mm Marzocchi forks, offering 100mm of wheel travel. The rear suspension consisted of a single shock, providing 142mm of wheel travel. The bike’s front brakes were dual 260mm discs, and the rear brakes had a single 260mm disc. The Bimota SB3 bike had a 3.50 V18 front tyre and a 130/80 V18 rear tyre. The wet weight of the bike was 219 kg / 483 lbs, and it had a fuel capacity of 14.7 litres / 3.9 US gal. The top speed of the Bimota SB3 was 225 km/h or 139.8 mph. The bike was road-tested in the HB2, HB3, KB3, and SB3 Motorrad Bimota in 1980 Tuttomoto.
