The Yamaha XT 400 was a four stroke, single cylinder motorcycle produced between 1981 and 1985. Its engine had a capacity of 399cc, a compression ratio of 8.8:1, and used a carburetor induction with CDI ignition. The bike had a kick-start and could reach a maximum power of 31 horsepower at 7000 rpm, with a maximum torque of 3.2-kg-m at 6000 rpm. It had a 5-speed transmission and chain final drive. The front suspension used telescopic forks while the rear suspension was a mono-cross. The front and rear brakes were both drums.
