Yamaha XS 500 (1975-76)

The Yamaha XS 500 motorcycle was produced from 1975 to 1976 and featured a four-stroke parallel twin cylinder engine with a capacity of 498cc. The engine was cooled by air and had a compression ratio of 9.8:1. The bike came equipped with a wet sump lubrication system and two 38mm Mikuni carburetors. It had both an electric and kick starter and could produce a maximum power of 48 hp at 8500 rpm and a maximum torque of 4.5 kgf-m at 6500 rpm.

The XS 500 had a five-speed transmission and a final drive chain. It had a full cradle frame made of circular steel pipes and a telescopic fork front suspension and dual shock swing arm rear suspension. Front brakes consisted of a single 267mm disc and the rear brake was a drum. The bike had a seat height of 812mm and a wet weight of 207.7 kg. It could hold 12.8 liters of fuel and had an average consumption of 46 mpg. The braking distance from 60-0mph was not specified, but the distance from 100-0mph was 139ft. The bike could complete a standing quarter-mile in 14.36 seconds and had a top speed of 105mph.
