The Yamaha TDM 850 was a motorcycle produced between 1991 and 1992. It had a four stroke, parallel twin-cylinder engine with 5 valves per cylinder and a capacity of 849cc. The bike was liquid-cooled with a compression ratio of 9.2:1 and had an induction of 2x Mikuni BDST88 carburetors. The ignition was digital and had an electric start. The TDM 850 had a maximum power of 77 hp at 7500 rpm, with a maximum torque of 75.5 Nm at 6000rpm. It had a five-speed transmission with a final drive of chain. The front suspension was 41mm Telehydraulic forks that were adjustable for preload and rebound, and the rear suspension was a Monocross single DeCarbon type gas-oil shock that was also adjustable for preload and rebound. Both front and rear brakes were disc with piston calipers, and the tires were 110/80-18 for the front and 150/70-17 for the rear. The Yamaha TDM 850 weighed 199kg dry and 219kg wet, with a fuel capacity of 18 litres. In terms of performance, the TDM 850 had an average fuel consumption of 15.5 km/lit and could brake from 60-0 in 12.8m. It also had a top speed of 209.1 km/h and could complete a standing 1/4 mile in 11.6 seconds.
