The Yamaha IT 250 motorcycle was produced in 1980-81 and had a two stroke, single cylinder, read valve engine with a capacity of 246cc. It had a compression ratio of 9.8;1, an upswept expansion chamber with USFS-approved spark arrestor and silencer for its exhaust system, and a 30mm Mikunis carburetor for induction. The bike had CDI ignition and could be started by a kick. It had a maximum power of 32.2 hp at 7500 rpm and a maximum torque of 22.6 / 3.12 kg-m at 7500 rpm. The transmission was six speed with a final drive of chain gear ratio. The frame was single-downtube, full-cradle chrome-moly with an aluminum box-section swing arm. The front suspension was air-assisted, oil-damped fork and the rear suspension was an aluminum-bodied monoshock with adjustable damping and preload. The bike had a front brake of drum 130 x 22mm shoes and a rear brake of drum 150 x 25mm shoes. It had a 90/90-21 front tire and a 12/90-18 rear tire, with a rake of 29 degrees and a trail of 125 mm/4.9 in. The wet weight of the bike was 106.5 kg/234.7 lbs, and it had a fuel capacity of 13 liters/3.4 US gal.
