The Yamaha DT 250 motorcycle was produced from 1979-1980 and had a two-stroke, single cylinder engine with a capacity of 246 cc. Its compression ratio was 6.8:1 and it had a single 28mm Mikuni VM28SS induction with an autolube lubrication system. The ignition was external-rotor magneto with CDI and a six-volt battery, and the bike had a kick start. The maximum power output was 17 hp at 6000 rpm and the maximum torque was 20.7 Nm at 5500 rpm. The transmission had five speeds and the final drive was a chain. The frame was a double-downtube, full-cradle, mild-steel frame with a tubular-section, mild-steel swing arm. The seat height was 856 mm and the ground clearance was 255 mm, with a dry weight of 122 kg and wet weight of 131 kg. The fuel capacity was 8.5 liters.
