Kawasaki KMX 200 (1987-88)

The Kawasaki KMX 200 was manufactured between 1987-88 and featured a two-stroke, single cylinder engine with piston read valve induction. Its capacity was 191cc with a bore x stroke of 67 x 54mm and a compression ratio of 8.0:1. The KMX 200 also boasted a 26mm Mikuni carburetor and CDI ignition with a kick starter. It produced a maximum power of 30.4 hp at 8500 rpm and torque of 18.6 ft-lb at 7500 rpm. The transmission was a 6-speed with a chain final drive.

The KMX 200 had air assisted leading axle telescopic front suspension and Uni-Trak rising rate monoshock rear suspension, both adjustable. It also had front and rear disc brakes, with the front being a single 213mm disc and the rear being a single 183mm disc. The tires were 3.00-21 in the front and 4.60-17 in the rear. The dry weight of the KMX 200 was 100 kg (220 lbs) with a fuel capacity of 9.3 litres (2.4 US gal).

According to Moto Verte’s road test, the Kawasaki KMX 200 had good handling and a comfortable ride for an off-road bike. Its 191cc engine provided plenty of power, and the suspension performed well on rough terrain. Its light weight made it easy to maneuver, and its fuel capacity was suitable for longer off-road trips. Overall, the KMX 200 was a reliable and enjoyable option for off-road enthusiasts in the late 80s.
