The Honda VF1000R motorcycle was released in 1985 with a liquid-cooled, four-stroke, 90-degree V-four DOHC engine with a capacity of 998cc. The bike had 130 horsepower at 10,500 rpm and a torque of 92.2 Nm/8.8 kg-m/63.7 ft-lb at 8,000 rpm. The VF1000R used a 5-speed transmission and a chain final drive, with a front suspension of 41mm center-axle air-assisted, 3-way rebound damping, and anti-dive valuing. The rear suspension was an air-assist coil-over shock with a progressive linkage and three-way rebound damping. The bike had a fuel capacity of 23 liters and an average fuel consumption of 36 mpg. The standing 1/4 mile was completed in 10.8 seconds, and the top speed was 149 mph. The Rothmans Honda VF1000R was tested in a group test in 1985 by Motosprint. The bike had a dry weight of 236 kg (520 lbs) with a seat height of 810 mm (31.8 in) and a ground clearance of 135 mm (5.3 in).
