Honda CX500 (1979-80)

The Honda CX500 motorcycle was produced from 1979 to 1980, featuring a four-stroke longitudinal 800 V-twin cylinder engine with a camshaft nestled at the base of the V between the cylinders. It had OHV, 4 valves per cylinder operated by pushrods, and a capacity of 497 cc with a bore x stroke of 78 x 52 mm and a compression ratio of 10.0:1. The induction was 2x 34mm Keihin carbs and the ignition was CDI. The bike had 50 hp / 37.2 kW of max power at 9000 rpm and 46 Nm / 33.9 lb-ft of max torque at 7000 rpm. The clutch was a wet, multi-plate 5-speed, with a transmission of 5 speeds and a final drive of a shaft.

The front suspension included a 33mm Showa telehydraulic fork with a front wheel travel of 132 mm / 5.1 in. On the other hand, its rear suspension was equipped with a swinging arm fork with adjustable shocks absorbers, and rear wheel travel of 84 mm / 3.3 in. Front brakes were 2x 275mm discs, while rear brakes were 160mm Drum. The front tire was a 3.25-19, and the rear tire was a 3.75-18. The dry weight of the bike was 205 kg / 452 lbs, and the fuel capacity was 17 Litres / 4.4 US gal. The consumption average was 43 mpg, the standing 1/4 mile was 14.0 sec / 93 mph, and the top speed was 112 mph.
