Honda CBR900RR Fireblade (1996)

The Honda CBR900RR Fireblade (1996) is a four-stroke, transverse four-cylinder motorcycle with a capacity of 919cc and a compression ratio of 11.1:1. It has a liquid cooling system, wet sump lubrication, and 4-into-2-into-1 exhaust. The bike is equipped with a 6-speed transmission, a #525 chain final drive, and a clutch that is wet, multiple discs, and cable-operated. The Honda CBR900RR Fireblade has a maximum power output of 96.9 kW at 10,500 rpm, and maximum torque of 92 Nm at 10,000 rpm.

The bike has a top speed of 259 km/h (161 mph) and an average fuel consumption of 5.8 l/100 km (17.2 km/l or 40.5 mpg). It weighs 182 kg (401 lbs) dry and 204 kg (450 lbs) wet. The bike’s dimensions are 2055 mm (80.9 in) in length, 685 mm (27.0 in) in width, and 1110 mm (43.7 in) in height. Its wheelbase is 1400 mm (55.2 in) and its seat height is 810 mm (31.9 in).

The Honda CBR900RR Fireblade is equipped with a front suspension that has a 45mm Showa cartridge and adjustments for spring preload and rebound damping. The rear suspension is Pro-Link with one Showa damper and adjustments for spring preload, rebound damping, and compression damping. The bike has front brakes that are 2x 296 mm discs with 4-piston calipers and a rear brake that is a single 240 mm disc with 1-piston caliper.

Overall, the Fireblade’s capacity was increased to 918.5cc, the seating position was more relaxed, the chassis was beefed up, and the fairing was redesigned. The front mudguard was designed to reduce drag and was the same as the one on Honda’s NSR500 GP bike. Phillip McCallen won the 1996 and 1997 Production TTs on the Blade.
