The Cagiva SST 250 and Chopper were introduced in 1979 and produced until 1983. They were both air-cooled, two-stroke, single-cylinder motorcycles with a capacity of 243 cc and a compression ratio of 10.6:1. The models had a Dell’Orto carburetor and used a battery and coil ignition system, later replaced by an electronic CDI. The motorcycles had a maximum power output of 17 HP at 7000 RPM and a 5-speed transmission with chain final drive.
The front suspension of the bike featured an oil damper Ceriant telescopic fork, while the rear suspension used a pivoted fork and Betor dampers with 3-way adjustment. The front brakes were a single disc, while the rear brakes were drums. The SST 250 weighed 143 kg and had a fuel capacity of 10.5 liters.
The Yamaha XS250S, Cagiva SST250, and Suzuki GS250T all underwent road tests by Which Bike in 1980.
