The BMW R NineT motorcycle model for 2019 has a four-stroke, two-cylinder horizontally opposed boxer engine with a capacity of 1170cc. The engine has two camshafts and four radially aligned valves per cylinder, and a central counterbalancer shaft. The bike is air/oil cooled and has a compression ratio of 12.0:1. The R NineT also features electronic intake pipe injection and digital engine management with overrun cutoff, as well as controlled 3-way catalytic converter and exhaust emission standards EU-4.
