Yamaha XS 650 (1972)

The Yamaha XS 650 (XS-2) motorcycle was produced in 1972 and featured a four-stroke, parallel twin-cylinder engine with a capacity of 653 cc. The engine had a compression ratio of 8.4:1 and was cooled by air with wet sump lubrication. It had 2 valve per cylinder, with a bore x stroke of 75 x 74 mm. Induction was done through 2 Mikuni BS38 carburettors and it was ignited by battery and induction coil. Starting was through kick. The motorcycle had a maximum power of 39.5 kW or 53 hp at 7200 rpm and a maximum torque of 54 Nm at 6800 rpm. Transmission was via a 5-speed gearbox with a final drive through chain. The motorcycle had dimensions of 2175 mm (length) x 905 mm (width) x 1135 mm (height) with a wheelbase of 1410 mm and ground clearance of 150 mm. The dry weight was 185 kg with a fuel capacity of 12.5 litres and oil capacity of 3.0 litres. The top speed of the Yamaha XS 650 was 185 km/h or 115 mph.
