The Yamaha YZF 1000 R1 is a 2016 motorcycle with a four-stroke, transverse four-cylinder engine, DOHC, and 4 valves per cylinder. Its capacity is 998 cc/60.9 cu-in with a bore x stroke of 79.0 x 50.9 mm and a compression ratio of 13.0:1. It is liquid-cooled and lubricated by a wet sump. The engine also has advanced management technology, including YCC-T, YCC-I, PWR, TCS, LCS, LIF, SCS, QSS, CCU & SCU. Fuel injection with YCC-T and YCC-I is used for induction, while ignition is controlled by a transistor. The motorcycle starts with electricity.

Designed with full adjustability, the front suspension is a 43mm KYB (R) inverted fork, while the rear suspension is a KYB (R) single shock with piggyback reservoir and 4-way adjustability. Ground clearance is 135mm/5.3 in, and wet weight is 199 kg/439 lbs. The fuel capacity is 17 liters/4.5 US gal, with a seat height of 830mm/32.7 in.

The brakes feature 2x 320mm discs with 4-piston calipers and UBS ABS for the front brakes, and a single 220mm disc with 1-piston caliper and UBS ABS for the rear. Front and rear tires have sizes of 120/70 ZR17 and 190/55 ZR17, respectively. The Yamaha YZF 1000 R1 is 2054.8 mm/80.9 in long, 690 mm/27.2 in wide, and 1150 mm/45.3 in high, with a wheelbase of 1419 mm/55.9 in and front/rear wheel travel of 120 mm/4.7 in.
