NSU Pony (1937-53)

The NSU Pony was a popular motorcycle produced from 1937 to 1953, with 250,000 units made. It had a single cylinder, 2-stroke engine with a capacity of 97 cc and a bore x stroke of 49 x 52 mm. The engine was air/oil cooled with dry sump lubrication and used a 1:25 oil fuel mixture. The clutch was a multi-plate friction clutch, and it had kick start ignition, and a Pradnico-magneto flywheel 6V, 15W Bosch or Noris. The carburetor was initially Amal 68/412 N and later switched to BING AJ 1/14/17 after the war. It had a single steel and chrome exhaust, delivering 2.2 kW / 3 hp at 4700 rpm. It had a 2-speed transmission with gearshift on the tank and a final drive via a chain. The frame was made of round steel pipe, and it measured 1970 mm x 720 mm x 1100 mm (L x W x H). The wheels were initially 26 x 2.25 in and later increased to 26 x 2.50 in. It had a rear brake, replacing the pedals, and a jaw brake in 1938.
