NSU Max (1951-56)

The NSU Max was a popular motorcycle model produced between 1951-1956 by the German manufacturer NSU. The bike was a popular choice thanks to its unique features such as engine, suspension and gearbox design, which set it apart from other bikes in the market at that time.

The NSU Max was powered by a 247cc four-stroke single engine that was capable of producing 18 horsepower. It had a top speed of 70mph and could travel around 80 miles on a single gallon of gasoline. The bike’s transmission was a four-speed gearbox, which was relatively uncommon at the time, and a foot-operated clutch pedal was used to shift gears.

Another distinctive feature of the NSU Max was its suspension system. Both the front and rear wheels were held in place with a swingarm and shock absorber, which provided good traction and stability on rough terrain. Additionally, the bike’s front suspension utilized a hydraulic damper system that offered great handling and stability.

The NSU Max was also known for its reliable and durable design. The bike’s frame was made of tubular steel and its tank and fenders were made from aluminum. This made the bike lightweight, which added to its speed and agility. Overall, the NSU Max was a unique bike that was ahead of its time in terms of design and features. It remains a popular collector’s item among motorcycle enthusiasts.
