Norton Mercury 650 (1968-70)

The Norton Mercury 650 was a motorcycle produced between 1968 and 1970. It had a four-stroke, parallel twin engine with a capacity of 646 cc and a bore x stroke of 68 x 89 mm. The bike was air-cooled with a compression ratio of 9.0:1 and featured two-into-two chrome exhausts and a single concentric carburetor by Amal. The ignition was coil capacitor and the spark plug options were KLG FE75 or FE80, Lodge 2HLN, and Champion N5. The bike was kick-started and had a maximum power of 35 kW or 47 hp. The transmission was 4-speed and the final drive was chain. The frame had a single downtube and cradle with telescopic front suspension and swingarm rear suspension with plungers. The front brakes were drum, twin leading shoe and the rear brakes were also drum. The wheels were made of steel with laced wire spokes and the front and rear rims were 3.00 x 19” and 3.50 x 19” respectively. The dry weight was 185 kg or 408 lbs and it was available in two color schemes: quicksilver and Atlantic blue or silver and black.
