The Kawasaki ZXR 400 (1990) is a four-stroke, transverse four-cylinder, DOHC motorcycle with a 399cc capacity and a liquid cooling system. It has a compression ratio of 12.0:1, and 4x Keihin CVKD30 carburetors for induction. The bike starts with an electric ignition and has a maximum power of 59hp/44kW @ 12000rpm and a maximum torque of 40Nm/29.5lb-ft @ 10000rpm.
The clutch is a wet multi-disc and the transmission is 6-speed. The final drive is through a chain. The bike has an aluminum diamond tubular, double-cradle frame, and a front suspension consisting of 41 mm upside-down Showa forks that are adjustable for preload and rebound damping. The Uni-Trek rear suspension is also adjustable and has rebound damping.
The front brakes come with two 300mm discs with four-piston calipers while the rear brakes consist of a single 240mm disc with two-piston calipers. The front and rear tires have dimensions of 120/60-17 and 160/60-17, respectively, with a wheelbase of 1395mm/54.9in and a seat height of 765mm/30.1in.
The dry weight of the bike is 160kg/352.7lbs, with a wet weight of 177kg/390lbs. The bike has a fuel capacity of 16 litres/4.2 US gal.
