Kawasaki Z400FX (1980-82)

The Kawasaki Z 400FX was a motorcycle produced from 1980-1982. Its engine was a four stroke, transverse four cylinder, DOHC with 2 valves per cylinder and a capacity of 399cc/24.3 cu in. The bike had a cooling system that was air cooled with a compression ratio of 9.5:1. The Z 400FX had 4 x TKK 21P Teir-Kei carburetors, battery & coil ignition, and electric starting. The bike had a maximum power output of 43 hp/32 kW at 10,500 rpm and a maximum torque output of 3.5 kgf-m/25.3 lb-ft at 8,500 rpm. The transmission was a 6-speed with a chain final drive with a gear ratio that varied from 1st to 6th gear. The front suspension was telescopic forks while the rear suspension was a swinging arm fork with shock absorbers. The front brake was a single 236mm disc and the rear brake was a single 140mm drum. The front and rear tires were 3.25-19 and 3.75-18 respectively. The wheelbase was 1380 mm/54.3 in with a ground clearance of 145mm/5.7 in.
