Kawasaki Z1300 (1981-83)

The Kawasaki Z1300 Prototype was produced from 1981-83 and was equipped with a four-stroke, transverse six-cylinder, DOHC, 2 valves per cylinder engine with a capacity of 1286 cc / 78.5 cu in. It had a liquid-cooled cooling system, 9.9:1 compression ratio, and was lubricated by wet sump engine oil. The induction system was comprised of three 32mm twin choke Mikuni BSW carburetors and the ignition was an analogue CDI (Capacitive Discharge Ignition) system. The motorcycle had a maximum power output of 87.5 kW / 120 hp at 8000 rpm and a maximum torque of 116 Nm / 11.8 kgf-m / 85.6 ft. lbs at 6500 rpm.

The Kawasaki Z1300 Prototype had a 5-speed transmission with a final drive shaft, and the frame was constructed with a double cradle. The front suspension consisted of telescopic forks and had a front wheel travel of 200 mm / 7.9 in. The rear suspension was equipped with dual shocks that were preload adjustable. Both the front and rear brakes were disc brakes, with the front having 2x 260 mm discs and 2-piston calipers and the rear having a single 250 mm disc and 1-piston caliper.

With a dry weight of 297 kg / 654.8 lbs and a fuel capacity of 27 liters / US 7.1 gal, the Kawasaki Z1300 Prototype had a consumption average of 6.5 L/100 km / 15.3 km/l / 36 US mpg, and a top speed of 223.6 km/h / 139 mph. Braking at 48 km/h / 30 mph – 0 took 10.4 meters or 34 ft, whereas braking at 97 km/h / 60 mph – 0 was 44.5 meters or 146 ft. The Kawasaki Z1300 Prototype could also reach standing 1/4-mile in 11.9 seconds at a speed of 185 km/h / 115 mph, with an acceleration rate of 0 – 97 km/h / 60 mph in 4.01 seconds and 0 – 161 km/h / 100 mph in 9.02 seconds.
