The Kawasaki KLR 650 Tengai was produced between 1987-88 and was a four-stroke, liquid-cooled motorcycle with a single cylinder DOHC 4 valve engine and a capacity of 651cc. It had a Keihin CVK40 carburetor and digital TCBI ignition, producing a maximum power of 48hp at 6,500rpm and maximum torque of 5.3kgf-m at 5,500rpm. The transmission was a 5-speed with a chain final drive, and the frame was a fully cradle box section aluminum swingarm with a single downtube. The front suspension had 38mm air-assisted Kayaba forks, and the rear suspension was a single Kayaba shock with the same travel of 230 mm or 9.0 inches. The front and rear brakes were single discs, and the bike had a 23-liter fuel capacity. It had a top speed of 163.5 km/h or 101.6 mph and a 0-60 time of 14.2 seconds. Its average fuel consumption was 18.1 km/lit, and it weighed 189 kg or 416 lbs when wet.
