The Kawasaki KLR 600 was a single-cylinder, four-stroke motorcycle produced in 1988 with a DOHC engine and 564cc capacity. The bike had liquid cooling, a Keihin CV carburetor, and a CDI ignition. It could produce up to 42 horsepower at 7000 rpm and 4.7 kgf-m of torque at 5500 rpm. The transmission was a five-speed, and the final drive was chain-driven. The KLR 600 had air-assisted forks on the front suspension and a single shock on the rear. It weighed 134 kg dry and 163 kg wet, with a fuel capacity of 11.5 litres. The average fuel consumption was 46 mpg. In performance tests, the KLR 600 had a standing quarter-mile time of 14.2 seconds and could reach a top speed of 157 km/h. The motorcycle was tested by Motosprint Group in 1990.
