The Harley Davidson XR1000 was released in 1983 and was powered by a four stroke, 45 degrees V-Twin, OHV engine with a capacity of 998cc. The bike had a compression ratio of 9.0:1 and was fitted with 2X 36mm Dell’Orto carburetors and an electronic ignition system. The XR1000 was capable of producing 70 hp / 52.6 kW @ 5600 rpm and a max torque of 48 lb-ft / 65 Nm @ 4400 rpm. The motorcycle was equipped with a 4-speed transmission and chain final drive. In addition, the front suspension had telescopic forks and a front wheel travel of 175 mm / 6.8 in. The rear suspension featured dual shocks and a swing arm with a rear wheel travel of 100 mm / 3.9 in. Stopping power was provided by 2X 292mm disc brakes in the front and a single 292mm disc brake in the rear. The motorcycle had a dry weight of 228 kg / 502.6 lbs and a fuel capacity of 9.5 litres / 2.5 US gal, with an average consumption of 46 mpg. The Harley Davidson XR1000 was able to complete the standing quarter-mile in 12.8 sec at 101 mph and had a top speed of 115 mph.
