BMW R68 (1952-54)

The BMW R68 motorcycle was produced by BMW from 1952 to 1954. It was designed to be a high-performance version of the popular R60/2 model.

The R68 had an improved engine with higher compression, larger carburetors, and a stronger crankshaft. It also had a redesigned frame for better handling and stability at high speeds.

The R68 was considered one of the best sport motorcycles of its time, with a top speed of 109 mph and a smooth ride even at high speeds.

Only 1,453 R68s were produced, making it a rare and sought-after collector’s item. It was also the last of the shaft-driven BMW motorcycles until the R90S in 1974.

The R68 also had advanced features for its time, such as a foot-operated gear shifter and a hydraulic steering damper. It was known for its durability and reliability, and many R68s are still on the road today, more than 60 years after they were first produced.

Due to their rarity and historical significance, R68 motorcycles are highly valued by collectors and enthusiasts. They are considered a pinnacle of BMW’s early motorcycle engineering and design, and a symbol of the brand’s commitment to quality and performance.
