BMW R60/5 (1971-73)

The BMW R60/5 motorcycle was first introduced in 1971 and was produced until 1973. It was part of the /5 series which was BMW’s first line of motorcycles to feature a front disc brake, electric starter, and telescopic forks.

The R60/5 was powered by a horizontally opposed, air-cooled 599cc engine that produced 40 horsepower at 6,200 rpm. It had a top speed of around 100 mph and could go from 0-60 mph in just under 6 seconds.

The motorcycle featured a 4-speed transmission that was shifted on the left-hand side, as well as a shaft drive rather than a chain. It had a dual-piston front brake and a single rear brake, both operated by a foot pedal.

The R60/5 also had a large, comfortable seat that made it a popular choice for long-distance touring. The motorcycle had a fuel capacity of 6.3 gallons, which could provide a range of up to 300 miles on a single tank.

Some notable variations of the R60/5 include the R60/6, which was introduced in 1974 and featured some upgrades such as an improved front brake and a new 5-speed transmission. Additionally, the R60/7 was produced in 1977 and featured an upgraded engine that produced 50 horsepower.

Overall, the BMW R60/5 remains a popular choice among vintage motorcycle enthusiasts for its reliability and classic design.
