BMW R60/2 (1966)

The BMW R60/2 (1966) is a classic motorcycle that was first introduced in 1956 as an updated version of BMW’s popular R50 model. It was a stylish and reliable bike that quickly became a favorite among motorcyclists of the time.

The R60/2 was powered by a 594cc horizontally-opposed twin engine that produced 30 horsepower and was capable of reaching speeds of up to 100 mph. It featured a four-speed manual transmission, a telescopic fork front suspension, and a rear swingarm suspension with dual hydraulic shocks.

One of the standout features of the R60/2 was its unique styling, which included a distinctive “toaster” tank design, a chrome-plated headlight casing, and a dual saddle seat. It also came with a host of optional accessories, including a luggage rack, windshield, and sidecar mount.

Despite its classic design and advanced engineering, the R60/2 was not without its quirks. The bike was known for its sometimes finicky engine, which required regular maintenance and adjustments. It was also notoriously difficult to start in cold weather, and its brakes were not always up to par with other bikes of its era.

Despite these minor flaws, the BMW R60/2 remains a beloved classic motorcycle that continues to be cherished by enthusiasts and collectors around the world. Its distinctive look and reliable performance make it a timeless icon of motorcycle design and a true piece of automotive history.
