BMW R100S (1976-78)

The BMW R100S was a motorcycle model manufactured by the German vehicle company BMW between 1976 and 1978. The bike was powered by a horizontally opposed, two-cylinder, air-cooled engine, with a displacement of 980 cc.

The R100S was notable for being the first BMW motorcycle to feature front and rear disc brakes. It also had a low-maintenance shaft drive instead of a chain drive.

The bike’s frame was made of steel and its suspension consisted of telescopic forks up front and dual shocks in the rear. The R100S could reach a top speed of around 120 mph and had a fuel capacity of 6.3 gallons.

The R100S was known for its comfortable ride, thanks to its well-padded seat and upright riding position. It was also praised for its reliability and durability, as many R100S motorcycles still remain on the road more than four decades after their production.

In addition to its standard features, the R100S could be customized with optional accessories such as saddlebags, a windscreen, and crash bars. Some owners also added aftermarket upgrades like high-performance exhaust systems or larger fuel tanks.

Today, the BMW R100S remains a popular vintage motorcycle among enthusiasts and collectors. Its classic design and robust engineering continue to attract riders who appreciate a well-made, dependable machine that can handle long-distance touring or weekend cruises.
