BMW R100GS (1989-90)

The BMW R100GS was a dual-purpose motorcycle that evolved from the earlier R80GS model. It was produced between 1989 and 1990 and was considered a different bike altogether as it featured improved design and performance. It had a 980cc air-cooled boxer twin engine with a power output of about 60hp and a 5-speed transmission. The R100GS had excellent off-road capabilities thanks to its long-travel suspension and an immense fuel tank that could hold up to 32 liters for long-distance riding.

The motorcycle was designed to be very comfortable for the rider, even on long journeys. The seat was adjustable according to the rider’s height and had a pillion seat as well. The windshield was also adjustable to cater to different wind conditions, and the handlebars could also be altered for better rider comfort. The instrument panel had all the essential information, including a trip-monitoring computer that displayed fuel range, consumption information and average speed data.

The R100GS was equipped with a shaft drive system that was very reliable and low-maintenance. The braking system was also of high quality, with dual front disc brakes and a single disc brake for the rear wheel. The motorcycle was also relatively light compared to other machines in its category.

Overall, the R100GS proved to be a very capable and reliable motorcycle that was perfect for long-distance touring and off-road adventures. It was an iconic model from BMW and is still a popular motorcycle among collectors and adventure riders.
