BMW R 4 (1932-37)

The BMW R 4 motorcycle was produced from 1932-1937 and was considered an important model in BMW’s history. It had a 400cc OHV engine and was initially designed with sidecars in mind as it had a sturdy frame and comfortable suspension. However, it was also popular as a solo bike and saw success in racing competitions during the 1930s.

The R 4 was built during a time of economic hardship, so it was designed to be practical and reliable while also being affordable. It had innovative features such as a fully enclosed chain drive and a rear suspension system that was integrated into the frame. These features offered improved handling and reduced maintenance costs.

Despite being considered a “budget” motorcycle, the R 4 had stylish design elements such as its teardrop-shaped fuel tank and sleek lines. It also boasted a top speed of 68mph, which was impressive for a bike of its class.

Unfortunately, the popularity of the R 4 was short-lived as it was eventually replaced by more modern offerings from BMW. However, it left a lasting impact on the motorcycle world and is still a sought-after collector’s item today.

Overall, the BMW R 4 was a significant model in the brand’s history, offering practicality, reliability, and style during a time when they were needed most.
