BMW K100RS (1986-87)

The BMW K100RS is a motorcycle that was produced by BMW from 1984 to 1992. The model years 1986 to 1987 saw the introduction of the K100RS Special and K100RS 16 valve. The new models featured a redesigned fairing with rectangular headlights, a wider tail section, and a higher handlebar position for improved rider comfort.

The K100RS 16 valve version was equipped with a more powerful engine producing 100 horsepower, compared to the standard 90 horsepower engine in the K100RS Special. The bike also had improved suspension and brakes, making it better suited for sports touring.

The K100RS has a unique construction featuring an inline-four shaft drive engine and a monocoque frame made of pressed steel panels. This configuration provided for better stability and handling on the road.

The K100RS also featured an adjustable windshield, a digital trip computer, and a hydraulic center stand. Overall, the motorcycle was praised for its smooth, reliable, and comfortable ride, as well as its impressive performance.

In 1988, BMW replaced the K100RS with the K1, a more sport-focused motorcycle. However, the K100RS remains a popular choice for riders who appreciate its combination of comfort and performance.

Some common modifications to the K100RS include aftermarket exhaust systems, suspension upgrades, and engine tuning. Owners of the K100RS also frequently add luggage and touring accessories to make the motorcycle more comfortable for long-distance travel.
