The Ducati 98 and 98N were small motorcycles produced in the early 1950s to late 1950s. The engine of the bike was a four-stroke, single-cylinder overhead valve, push rod model with a capacity of 98cc. The engine had a bore of 49mm and a stroke of 52mm. The compression ratio was 8:1 and the cooling system was air-cooled. The lubrication system was dry sump and the Induction was through Dell’ Orto MA16B carburetor. The bike had a 6V, 25W, flywheel magneto ignition system and used the kick start method to operate. The bike was capable of producing a maximum power of 4.1 kW or 5.5 hp at 6800 rpm. The transmission had three speeds, but for the 1957 version, the 98N had a four-speed transmission. The final drive of the bike was through a chain. The motorcycle had an open-spine pressed steel frame and a telescopic fork front suspension. The rear suspension comprised non-adjustable twin hydraulic shocks and a swingarm. The front and rear brakes were both drum brakes. The bike had CEAT or Pirelli tires both front and rear size 2.75-17. The bike had a length of 1880 mm, a wheelbase of 1240 mm and a dry weight of 72 kg for the 98 model, and 81 kg for the 98N model. The fuel capacity was 10 L that could travel up to 75 km/h for the 98 model and 80 km/h for the 98N model.
