The Suzuki GS 400E motorcycle was produced from 1978-1984 and featured a four-stroke, parallel twin-cylinder engine with a capacity of 398cc. The bike had a DOHC configuration with 2 valves per cylinder and was cooled by air. It had a compression ratio of 9:1 and was induced by 2 Mikuni BS34 carburetors.

It could produce a maximum power of 25.4 kW or 34 hp at 8000 rpm and a maximum torque of 30 Nm or 22.1 lb-ft at 7000 rpm.
