Ducati 48 Piuma & 50 Piuma (1961-68)

The Ducati 48 Piuma and 50 Piuma were two-stroke, single cylinder, piston-port motorcycles produced between 1961 and 1968. The bikes had a capacity of 47.6 cc and 2.9 cu in and were air-cooled with a Dell’Orto T4 12D1 induction. The ignition was 6V 18W Flywheel magneto with a Marelli CW 225N spark plug. The bikes had a three-speed clutch with a wet, multiplate transmission and a final drive ratio of 2.786:1. The pressed steel frame had a telescopic fork front suspension and a swingarm, twin shock rear suspension. The front brakes were drums measuring 90 mm (Export 105 mm) while the rear brakes were also drums, but measuring 90 mm (Export 105 mm) as well. The 48 Piuma weighed 47 kg, while the Sport and Export models weighed 49 kg and 50 kg, respectively. The top speed of the Piuma was 50 km/h or 31 mph, while the Sport and Export models had a top speed of 80 km/h or 50 mph.
