Velocette Valiant (1957-64)

The Velocette Valiant was produced between 1957 and 1964, with only 1,600 units made. It had a four-stroke flat-twin cylinder engine with a capacity of 192cc and a compression ratio of 8.5:1, and was cooled by air. Lubrication was achieved by wet sump and the bike had 2 x Amal 363 monobloc carburettors. The twin exhaust had torpedo-shaped silencers and the ignition was powered by a coil with a 6V, 42W battery. The Valiant had a kick start and a maximum power of 8.8kW at 6000 rpm (from 1958, this was increased to 7000 rpm). The bike featured a dry, three-plate clutch and a four-speed constant mesh transmission with final drive by shaft. The frame was a duplex design with a single top tube and the bike had a wheelbase of 1300mm and a seat height of 737mm. The Valiant had 5 x 1” drum brakes front and rear, and spoked wheels with 3.25 x 18” tyres. The fuel tank had a capacity of 13.6L and the bike weighed 115.7kg. It was available in black and green and had a recommended top speed of 97km/h.
