The Kawasaki KLR 650 was produced between 1991-92 and had a 651 cc four-stroke, single-cylinder, DOHC, 4 valve engine with liquid cooling and a compression ratio of 9.5:1. It had a Keihin CVK40 carburetor, digital TCBI ignition and an electric starting system. The max power was 48 hp at 6500 rpm and the max torque was 5.3 kgf-m at 5500 rpm. The motorcycle had a 5-speed transmission and chain final drive, with gear ratios ranging from 2.266 to 0.791. The frame was a single downtube, fully cradle frame box section aluminum swingarm and the suspension consisted of 38mm air-assisted Kayaba forks at the front and a single Kayaba shock at the rear.
